My 20 year school reunion.

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Yes.? I find it hard to believe too.? That means as most of my students were not yet conceived, and while some of their parents were having pre-marital sex (something they of course expect their kids NOT to do), I was running around like an idiot with logs on my shoulders doing military service.? In fact I still did 2 years of military service.? Yes that’s how old I am.

I listened to Cyndi Lauper.? I loved her.? And Madonna.? And Prince.? And De Pache Mode.? And Queen.? And Wham.

I had a white suit.

I danced all thru the night.

I was a Voortrekker.

How did I get where I am today?

Check out Christof Wolmarans’ facebook for some crazy photo’s.

It seems facebook may be taking over the earth

This is crazy the amount of people I have connected with thru this very nifty little programme used by a few gazillion people.? A really fantastic tool!

BUT

I find it quite astounding how people splash out their lives on facebook.? I pretty much don’t care what people think of me.? YET I am careful as to what I say to whom on their wall!? It’s like giving someone access to the inbox of your cellphone.? I’ve caught many lying students out this way.? ‘No we’re just friends…’ (In fact one student once sent me a total giveaway sms thinking I’m her fling from the previous night - whose name also started with an F and was under mine in her contacts)

But with Facebook people don’t even bother to hide.? You see it’s like somebody’s room or house.? The posters they put on their wall, the things that are standing around, the things which are NOT there…? Sherlock Holmes was the master of deduction and whatever assumptions and deductions he might have made if… I mean Facebook might have driven the man insane.? Just too many clues!!

So I’ve learned so much about some of you who are reading this blog…

…by studying your Facebook Profiles. Good name actually FACE. BOOK.

Be careful.? Your face is showing.

Women’s day - with Madonna, the Queen, and Elonie

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Today is National Womens’s day in South Africa! And 13thFLOOR South Africa is hosting their first national CRY conference for girls! Thank God for women! What would we do without them? Long live the female race!

Long Live Mother Theresa. Long Live Madonna! Long live my wife! Long live my mother! Long live… the Queen!! (She has no end it seems)

I am MC’ing the conference alongside Elonie de Klerk, who used to work for 13thFLOOR. As young woman, Elonie suffered a horrible ordeal 3 years ago. But brave woman that she is, she embraced the long but wonderful journey of restoration. A journey that could in no way be easy. And was not. Yet she realised that giving up was not an option. On the conference tomorrow we launch our new book called ‘Hope’less written by 13thFLOOR author, Brandon Hofer. A narrative telling of the KATE and TERI story performed by 13thFLOOR, together with a devotional study. This book, and this blog, is dedicated to Elonie. I copy the dedication from the book…

‘Hope’less: Dedicated to Elonie de Klerk. Our friend, and wonderful lead actor/dancer/singer for 4 years ? whose smile was stolen one dark night alone at her apartment. Our God made you whole. Thank you Lord.

And thank you Elonie for not giving up hope.

And for smiling again.

We love you.

This is the theme of our new American show. Can’t give too much away yet. But Kathleen and I are pondering the idea of things we carry inside of us that destroy us. Things that can be cut away rather easily if quickly identified… but if ignored and left alone to grow, any hope of recovery is not without a looooooong process and mighty Godly intervention - and is much harder!

There is a scripture that talks about sin creeping in and then slowly but surely taking control of our lives up to the point of enslaving us. There are a bunch of things (a new phrase I learned in th US! - everything is ‘a bunch of…’) where we allow this to happen.

Now some of us will immediately say, ‘Yes, like those prostitutes, porn addicts, and…’ - but no… there are many other things that creep into the ‘church’ - and needs to be confronted and cut out… - And if it’s too: Late long term ‘chemo’ treatment by God’s Spirit. A very unpleasant process.

Random musings by King SOL - (and me)

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I’m pondering on Solomon’s random thoughts as he introspectively ponders on the sense of life. As he allows his mind to roller coaster through the great monuments and the great screw-ups of his short journey on earth, he stumbles on some profound truths - wise man that he is - some of which he struggled to apply. (Gives me some hope for myself!) So here’s the first. Ecc 3

9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men.

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil?this is the gift of God.

14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

God has laid a burden on men, a curse. Thank you Adam. Thank you Eve. Yet He lays eternity in the hearts of men. (see my blog on 4D faith). A new perspective in spite of the curse. I’m still trying to figure out what in the world this ‘eternity’ statement means. I think it is a heavily loaded truth - a treasure to seek out…

But what I do know is that a man needs a mission. Since the beginning of time he needs to hunt. To conquer. To toil. And by God’s grace that which was initially a curse can become a great satisfaction (v13) and a joyous celebration (to eat and drink v 13) (Now where is this going…?)

And somehow this toil also has eternal value (v14) - bringing us back to eternity in the hearts of men (v11). (Musing…contemplating…)

And everything beginning and ending with God… ’so that men will revere him’.

That was the theological musing…

And then there is ordinary me on my little mission (Hopefully God inspired)… toiling, toiling. God please make sense of it.

A prayer by a saint:

God of eternity

embedded in the heart

of man

make beautiful the curse in me

that I with you may toil

in glee

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Satisfied.

Revered.
