Why I do what I do

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Things are going well in our ministry! We recently had a big event called … the ‘BIG EVENT’ - where we performed Gijima at the Performer Theater as a fundraiser for our scholarship program.

Our US team has just finished preparing their first show for their 2008 tour.

13thFLOOR UK is in training for our November UK/Europe tour, which is fully booked after our promotional event in Hungary.

Our 13thFLOOR Africa scouts have been up and about testing the waters for our Mozambique project next year.

13FM’s first Collision Music Festival? happened last week in Secunda.

And our South African Teams are ready to go on their last tour of the year in a weeks time, while our South African staff are finishing up auditions and putting together our teams for next year.

To top all of this our Executive Committee has worked 24/7 to redesign and restructure our ministry’s managerial structures so that we are ready for whatever growth the future might hold for our ministry.

When I think about all of this, I keep reminding myself that none of this makes sense if God is not building this house.? And I sigh and ask Him to keep me close to His heart.? This week some of our teams did some productions which was some of their own work produced as a practical task given as part of their annual assignments.? When I was again confronted with the spiritual and emotional growth of some of these young people, I just swallowed a few humble tears, and reminded myself that THIS is why I do what I do - and will never stop.

Gala and Reunion

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

This weekend 13thFLOOR celebrated 13 years of existence with our annual gala event at the Little Theatre and our 13 years reunion.? It was fantastic.? I?m incredibly proud of our two teams who did a great job with their performances.

Many people saw our new show, Gijima, and we got great feedback.? We also might have scared some people away because we pretty much push the limits with this show.? But hey, I need to be true to our calling. (see about Flaps on this blog)

C-Kruis is also now officially something of the past ? the 4 month name change transition period has past and we are now officially 13thFLOOR globally.? The last time I flew to the USA (in February), the idea of a name-change had not even yet occurred.

Thank you for all your hard work Annette du Preez and Liandi!? And all the staff!

13 years Reunion.

Monday, July 16th, 2007

This weekend is our 13 year reunion!

Wow!

13 years!? I never thought we would be where we are today.? All by God’s grace.? Honestly, I never had any intentions taking the ministry to this place.? But God had things in mind I could not imagine.? It’s crazy.

But I’m thankful.? Over the past 13 years there is so much we’ve learned.? Too much to jot down in this square.? Hopefully our lives are letters telling the story of what we God has taught us - embedded in our spirits!

Come support us this weekend when we host our gala shows.? Wednesday to Saturday - details on the website!

Beauty for Ashes

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

So with our two Touring Companies out on the road, we are preparing ourselves for two Women’s conferences these next 2 weekends.? Last year we were invited to minister at Beauty for Ashes with Angela Thomas, author of Do you think I’m Beautiful?

It was a great experience with approximately 1000 women per weekend attending.? This year we are doing their opening, a full show on the Saturday plus 3 extra productions.? Este is working her butt of preparing our senior company to be ready for the weekend.? And I am pumped and excited because Bibi is performing for us for the first time in her 5 years of service, and Peter will be on stage again.? And together they are fantastic!

Come support us if you are a woman!

After much discussion, lots of work by Hilde and an endless decision making process, this is the new logo of the global ministry! How do you like it?? Please give some comments.

Gijima

Monday, March 19th, 2007

I finished writing the screenplay for our newest show, Gijima, this week.? Chris finished all the music and we?re pumped to start working on it.? Gijima is the Zulu word used for the following:? to run, to chase, to run away/flee from.

This show was Este?s brainchild and is our first show in four official languages: English, Afrikaans, Zulu, and Northern Sotho.? I?m very excited about it and invite you to make an effort to see it this year ? Look out for the show at the Little Theatre later this year!

Also look out for our other new show called Lil? Me!? Global Weight loss challenges, adopted kid from Africa, computer hacking into the Sandton Sun?s security system etc!

C-Kruis has A NEW NAME!

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Local news is that C-Kruis International is changing its name! To 13thFLOOR.

With global planting in the UK/Europe, as well as in other African countries, our ministry needs to be known by one name across the world. Also we found it pretty important that people all over can pronounce the name!

With C-Kruis locally in its 13th year of existence we found it fitting to change the name to 13thFLOOR ? the name our American based ministry is already using. There is a lot of superstition around the number 13. Airplanes don?t have a 13th seat and many buildings don?t have a 13th Floor. 13thFLOOR wants to go places in ministry where people are afraid to go. We want to stretch people boundaries of thinking about ministry. (Please read my ABOUT ME column)

So look out for a 6-month marketing strategy telling the South African public about our new name!

Executive leaves for USA

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Tonight we are off - the four Directors, with Hilde standing in for Annette.? Off to visit 13thFloor for 2 weeks.? Christiaan was very worried! WHY ARE THE DIRECTORS COMING TO VISIT!? But ultimately we found this crazy special of return air tickets?for R6 000/a piece, and we thought it an ideal opportunity to go over and say “Good job! You make us proud!”

Hilde eventually got her visa - a 10 year visa - she now owns property and thus according to the US embassy is not crooked anymore!

THE wife is at home with Riccardo, and Piet and Es are staying with her!

I have a feeling God is going to do something great on this trip - He’s planning something we don’t know about!

Recruiting Dutch Americans in the Dros’S (plural)

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Andrew Breytenberg - Doesn’t sound very American does it? But yes, American - living in Amsterdam and currently visiting what he calls, and I agree on, the ‘promised land’.?ONS VIR JOU…!

This day was booked out - every minute.? The American:??’Got?a moment?’ The South African (ME): ‘No.? Sorry.??Not unless you?say you want to work for us.’? The American: ‘Well I wanted to talk about the timing?of it.’? The South African :? ‘Well I suddenly have time! This afternoon 17h15 Dros accross the N1.’

17h15: South African?circles through?the Dros 3 times passing thru tables of?Noot vir Noot Kykers?discussing the Blue Bulls’ fate this weekend.

No American.

A phone call.? ‘Where are you?’ ‘Outside Broe.’?An american who says ‘broe’!? ‘Outside of Dros… right of the N4.’ Um. ‘Wrong Dros - will have to be a quick phone conversation. When can you move here?’? ‘In the fall’ ?(American for Autumn which is actually Spring - He means September) ‘Cool see you then.’

A quick phone conversation in two Dros’S.? American moving from Holland to South Africa to help kickstart or whatever else our new graphic and copywrite vision for whatever.? Only God can recruit somebody this way with any?success.?

Few have the stomach to answer such a call.? Would you have been willing??

Good day at the office.? See you soon Dutchie!

53 people gathered in Chillies@Hatfield Square last Sunday.? Our church in the bar is growing.? Did I say church?? Yes .? 53 people having drinks together.? Reflecting about life past and life to come.? Or in plain English - what happened in your week? What are you up to this week.? And of course God was there too.? So there was quite a bit of liberating?truth passing between the drinks.?Filtered by some non-truthical nonsensical human opinion.? (As is from many pulpits every Sunday) Yet truth prevails.

Isn’t life great?? ?
